Thing were much too quiet around here this weekend, so I have decided to make an announcement.
I took my yellow belt test in karate class today. I passed. I'm still not sure which bits of class were the actual test, except for when I did the first form (kata) by myself, but I guess that doesn't really matter.
I am excedingly proud of myself, and I just wanted to share with a bunch of people of whom I am very fond.
Also went to submit my papers for my eligibility for teaching certificate on Friday. They want to put me in a different school. This one is "better" and less dangerous than the other one. Actually, some kids from the new school kicked butt in the county science fair. And they may want me to coach academic bowl. I am supposed to go meet the principal sometime this week.
Unfortunately, the salary is going to be about $5000 less than they originally thought. Evidently the system doesn't use one of the "step ups" they said I would get and my JD doesn't get me credit for a Phd as I was originally told. I can probably live on this much money, but only just barely.

AsIs (aka, Azziz): If you remember back to when we first met in RL (the Boston Gathering!), I said that I thought that your handle was pronounced, "a-zeez"; exotic, Middle Eastern in origin. Several weeks ago, I heard that there is a publication primarily aimed at Arabic women titled "Azziza," meaning strong, self-reliant. Although I may have been wrong on the pronunciation, the concept fits!

The green belt for learning to tie it? Right(read with sarcasm). Very funny. I wish. I think I have to actually get good at or at least consistent with my side kick before that happens. And get much better at working in a back stance. And learn at least two more forms well. And who knows what else? It is going to be a while. But it is the process I love, not the belt, so that is fine.
We couldn't have class this week which was a bummer, but I seem to be sick again (yuch) so it may have been just as well. No big deal, but I have a slight feeling of malaise and a fever of almost one hundred. I'd blame it on the weather, but I was at the radio station in the air conditioning all day.
Speaking of the radio station, please AVOID a book called "In Love with Shakespeare: a Literary Memoir." The author is a real crank. If I had been the one to evaluate the book we never would have done it. Catch this. He moans and groans about people not staying true to the text over and over again. Then he declares that Hamlet must be about 18 years old despite the fact that the text itself positively declares that Hamlet is 30. He just brushes it off with a who cares about just a few lines. He wants Hamlet to be young, so he is. But anyone ELSE who messes with the words is horrible. I had to read it, but no one else should have to suffer through this dreck. And NO ONE should pay for it.
Next one is called "Justice: Crimes, Trials, and Punishments" by Dominick Dunne. Hoping it will be good vacation reading. I'm headed out to the coast to vist with my family for a week and celebrate mom's 60th birthday.
I put Pollymath Prospero in the Hobit name generator: Beryl Sackville-Bracegirdle with no apparent home. Do you think Frodo will let me move in if I assure him that we Sackville-Bracegirdles have never approved of the Sackville-Baggins branch of the family?

Polly Math came out as Zelda Deepdelver as Brockenborings. I rather like this on. Deepdelver is a nice family name.
And the name of the character I used for the Never Ending Story, Miranda Just, came out as Primula Goodbody of Frogmorton. So, the question is, what is a "Goodbody" for a hobbit, and how did my family come by this appelation? Are we all hotties? This could be fun. And I kind of like the name Primula. Never heard it before. I think it has a lot of dignity for a hobbit name.
I'm back! And gosh, the board is back! This is great.
For the few of you who might have been wondering where I've been (BTW, I'm Pansy Goldworthy of Michel Delving), I took a motorcycle trip to San Antonio Texas and back, and have I got the biker tan to prove it!
What an incredibly great adventure that was... we met up with some Rotarian bikers on the way to San Antonio, and once we got to Texas, it was BBQ and Mexican food all the way!
The upshot of that was that I missed nearly all of B5 Season 4, and am picking up Season 5 right at the beginning. So there's a hole in my mind, but that was obvious from the beginning.

Ok, two of you ride motorcycles. I'm honestly, seriously thinking about "re-entry", so to speak. However, I stopped riding regularly about 20 years ago. How crazy is this?
BMW R1100RT after taking the MSF course?
Previous experience was a Honda 350, Honda 750, and a Suzuki 600cc (can't remember the model), 4 cylinder sportbike (aka crotch-rocket) that I maybe put 100 miles on total. Let's see...took a K1000GS around the parking lot a couple of weeks ago to see if I could stay on, make U-turns and shift up and down. It felt good, but also a bit awkward. However, I didn't drop the bike http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif. Any hints, advice? I've started checking out some riding gear as well (no tanktop/flip-flops for me!). Oh yeah...I crashed once on a curve 'cause I didn't lean enough. Broke my collar bone, and got a serious case of road-rash on my left arm. Boots, helmet, gloves took care of the rest. That's it in a nutshell. Ok, whaddya think? (Lyta and Ery mostly, but all others may chime as well).

I'd say if you feel ready to ride, and you want to ride, go for it, but I would take the MSF course first before getting your bike, even though you use to ride. I took the course and I don?t regret it, even the "season" riders in my class took away something useful from the MSF course. A beginner will take even more away from the class. The class will get you up to speed and provide that extra practice since you haven't been riding in a while. Heck, I rather drop one of their bikes then mine. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif After taking the class, practice what you learned in a deserted parking lot (slow turns, weaving etc.), and then take the bike out on back roads before heading into high traveled areas.
